We are actively seeking interns and 2018 teacher

Wildhood is an independent outdoor and place-based preschool and kindergarten.  Students learn in small multi-aged classes of up to 12 students, supported by two lead teachers and driven by individualized learning, play, and outdoor experience.  Wildhood utilizes both wild and urban community spaces daily, including parks, beaches, museums, libraries, farms, and universities.

INTERN POSTING
Wildhood is seeking adventurous and enthusiastic interns for the 2017/2018 school year!  Interns will help to support students during school hours in outdoor play, learning activities, transportation on foot and by city bus, care of personal materials such as backpacks and mittens, in addition to other tasks related to activity preparation and training.  You can expect to spend at least 50% of each day outside in all types of weather, including rain and cold.  

Internship positions are available between 9am-1pm, Monday-Friday.  Flexible scheduling is available: 1 to 5 day/week internships are available.  We ask that interns commit to at least 1 quarter of working with Wildhood, to allow for ample time to be immersed in our model and build relationships with students.
Qualifications
-An interest in early childhood education and place-based / environmental education
-Enthusiasm for working with very young children and the ability respond to children from a place of compassion, empathy, and support
-Interest in understanding developmentally appropriate practice and building awareness of developmental needs of children you work with
-Must be comfortable working outdoors in ALL weather conditions, including rain, snow, and cold

​                               Wildhood Preschool and Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications 

​Wildhood Micro-School's Preschool and Kindergarten Forest School Program is actively seeking energetic, resilient, compassionate and reflective teachers for our children. Most hours are outdoors, in wild places including parks, gardens, urban farms, forests and beaches. Regular weekly field trips are also made to libraries, museums and other places of learning. The hours of this position are 8:00 AM-1:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with additional meetings, office and prep hours to be discussed and agreed upon with our team, according to the needs of our school. Total working hours can range from 20-30 hours per week. Wildhood follows a similar calendar to that of the traditional school system. 

Wildhood teachers support each and every child, as well as the group as a whole. Wildhood teachers cultivate a compassionate and cooperative group dynamic to support children's play and social/emotional development, while offering storytelling, songs and other music, cooperative games, and provocations. Training and mentorship provided.

Qualifications:

Must be able to support a small group [5-10 children] independently, following their interests
Must be able to offer and receive daily feedback to grow personally and as an organization 
An empathetic and loving attitude is essential, as is the ability to hold strong to boundaries set for children and adults
Must be confident, enthusiastic, and strive to respond to children from a place of compassion and support
Must be dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice, aware of developmental needs of children you work withMust have experience working with children age 2-6 years
Must be comfortable working outdoors in ALL weather conditions
Must be able to drive a 10-passenger school van, or be able to be trained before school operation 
Must be open to handling insects and animals such as salamanders, banana slugs, chickens, frogs, beetles, etc.
Must be aware of and interested in further growth regarding non-violent communication, respectful caregiving, and place-based / environmental education
Must be physically fit, able to crouch, dig, climb, hike, and carry up to 40lbs
Must have reliable transportation (bicycle, car, etc.) and ability to transport materials
Upon start date: CPR certification, fingerprinting to be completed or renewed upon start date
